A message from the staff to our hardworking children
EISTEDDFOD – 2nd in the Action Song competition… CONGRATULATIONS to all the pupils! Thank you to everyone for all their hard work in preparing the pupils for today, especially to Mrs Hughes Ahmad and Miss Thomas!
TATE PROJECT – Year 3 pupils across London were invited to take part in the largest group portrait ever made. Thank you to David, who came in to take the photos and deliver a drama workshop. We look forward to seeing our photos in the exhibition at Tate Britain in November.
POLICE VISIT – PC Carolyn McGuigan delivered informative question and answer sessions to Class 1 and 2 about the role of the police, as well as some advice about how to stay safe in the community.
ART CLUB – A heartfelt thanks to Maxime Lebrun for joining us in this week’s art club. It was absolutely brilliant to see his work and to have a presentation on how to start drawing different characters. The pupils were thrilled to have the opportunity to draw their own characters!
THEME WORK – Reception pupils enjoyed building bug hotels today for the minibeasts!
CATERPILLARS – The caterpillars have arrived!
COGURDD COMPETITION – Last Friday two of our pupils competed in the Urdd cookery competition and according to our adjudicator – Mrs Marian Howell – the standard of preparation and execution was very high. Da iawn chi blant!
COOKING WORKSHOP – What a jam-packed morning learning how to prepare and cook Hot Cross Buns under the direction of Mrs Marian Howell. Thank you, Marian, for coming in and inspiring the chefs of the future. An ideal combination of learning, discovery and application. Here they are showing their work…
WORLD WATER DAY – It was great to be part of World Water Day in Guildhall Yard today. The Worshipful Company of Water Conservators launched its “Taking Control of Your Environment” initiative. Many thanks for the invite – the pupils have learnt a lot about taking responsibility for the environment!
RED NOSE DAY ASSEMBLY – It was a pleasure to have Rev Rob Nicholls with us in this morning’s assembly on Red Nose Day. He reminded us of the importance of not judging others.

LIBRARY – Thank you very much to Kevin Francis for joining us in the official opening of the new Reading Corner in memory of Clive Jones.
SMILEY MINDS – Many thanks to Maggie from Smiley Minds for delivering workshops on understanding, expressing and managing emotions, and on sleep hygiene.
DOCTOR’S VISIT – We recently had a visit from Dr Catrin Morgan who answered medical questions and showed Class 2 pupils how to use a stethoscope. A teddy bear clinic was also held in Class 1!

BOOKSTART – Many thanks to Denbighshire Bookstart for our new books!
GUEST SPEAKER – Rosni Prajapati visited class 1 this week as part of this term’s Religious Education theme. We all learnt more about Hinduism and were thrilled to see all the resources she brought with her. Diolch!
CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY – London Welsh School pupils supporting ‘Save the Children’ charity.
SANTA CLAUS – Class 1 pupils and Miri Mawr were extremely excited when Santa Claus came by with presents for everyone!
60 YEARS IN 60 MINUTES – All pupils performed brilliantly during their show ’60 years in 60 Minutes’. Congratulations!
TRANSPORT FOR LONDON – Thank you to William Wybrew, who works at Transport for London, for talking to Year 5 and 6 pupils about London’s public transport.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES ASSEMBLY – It was a pleasure to welcome Bethan Davies to the school today. Bethan represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast earlier this year. She talked about the experience of representing the country, and gave a short demonstration of how she trains.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TRIP – Class 2 had the warmest of welcomes at Ealing Gurdwara. We were welcomed by Mrs Sethi and a team of enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers. Thank you!
CHILDREN IN NEED DAY – The School Council raised £100.06 for Children in Need by organising a cake stall and asking all pupils to wear their own clothes. Well done!
KS2 TRIP – Class 2 pupils enjoyed their visit to Charles Dickens Museum.
TRIC A CHLIC WORKSHOP – Thanks to Class 1 parents who attended the Welsh phonics workshop.
BOOK COUNCIL – A visit from Book Council Wales.
CLASS 1 ASSEMBLY – Class 1 pupils held their Family Assembly this term, with all pupils performing songs and presenting interesting facts they had learnt about the rain forests of the world.
CODING CLUB – Many thanks to Dan for organising excellent coding sessions during the ICT Club!
CYW – Class 1 enjoyed a great afternoon with the presenters of Cyw, S4C. We look forward to seeing them again tomorrow at London Welsh Centre.
NATIONAL POETRY DAY– Class 2 pupils celebrated National Poetry Day by writing their own poems!
MUSEUM OF LONDON – Class 2 had a great trip to the Museum of London today to further their knowledge on the Victorian Era! They enjoyed a workshop and had an opportunity to dress up in period clothing.
BOOK TRUST – Nursery and Reception pupils were extremely happy to receive a book each from the Book Trust ‘Time to Read’ scheme.
LITTEN NATURE RESERVE – A great day was had at Litten Nature Reserve with Class 1 collecting leaves, exploring under tree stumps, building, painting and cooking with mud and leaves and climbing trees.

LLANGRANNOG – The whole school had a fantastic few days at Llangrannog!
END OF YEAR ASSEMBLY – It was sad to say goodbye to our current year 6 pupils this morning – they’ll be sorely missed, but we wish them all the best for the future!
SCHOOL BARBEQUE – A huge thank you to Tony and Siw for hosting the school summer barbecue. The families and guests had another wonderful day, and we raised over £4000 for the school. Thanks to everyone who came along, donated items, bought raffle tickets and bid on auction items.
CLASS 2 TRIP – Class Two’s trip to the V & A Museum and Hyde Park.
BUDDHIST CENTRE – A big thank you to Sara-Ellen for leading a morning of discovery for the pupils of class 2 in a Buddhist Centre in Acton this week. It was a morning filled with discussions, religious stories and listening to the experiences of Buddhists from different backgrounds. Our thanks to SGI-UK for your warm welcome.
FASHION SHOW – We had an excellent 60s Fashion Show this morning – thanks to all Class 2 pupils and parents for organising the groovy outfits! Da iawn blant!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION – Thanks to Kosser and her daughters for coming in to speak to Class 1 pupils about Islam – it was very interesting and we learnt a lot!
SUMMER TERM 2018
MINDFULNESS – Class 2 pupils have completed their Mindfulness course – congratulations all! We are very lucky that Ann Wood volunteered to deliver the sessions. Thank your for your time and dedication – we really enjoyed it!
HANWELL CARNIVAL – Thank you Hanwell Carnival and the PTFA for another fantastic day.
URDD – Thanks to Joanna and Rhian for arranging the ‘Urdd Reward Club’ for the pupils and for the tasty pizzas – they were all delighted!
EYFS OPEN MORNING – Thanks to the Early Years Parents who came in during the Open Morning – we do hope you found it beneficial!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION – Thanks to Sara-Ellen for coming in to speak to Class 2 pupils about Buddhism. We’re looking forward to our trip to the Buddhist Centre in Acton!
DRAMA WORKSHOP – Class 2 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the drama workshop with Sam Ebenezer today!
MYSTERY READER – Thank you very much Cherine for being the mystery reader to Class One today.
SCONES AND SONGS – We were entertained this morning by the Eisteddfod competitors – well done children, you were great! We wish them well as they compete next week and want to thank Rhian, Joanna, Catrin and Huw for all their work with the pupils.
WHITSUN ASSEMBLY – Thank you to Reverend Rob Nicholls for an interesting assembly on Whitsun today.
LITTER PICKERS – We thank the Eco Council Members who collected rubbish around Hanwell Community Centre this week. Da iawn chi!
MINDFULNESS – Class 2 pupils are learning about mindfulness as part of a classroom-based curriculum called Paws b. We thank Ann Wood for volunteering to organise and deliver the sessions with the pupils.
COOKING WORKSHOP – Thanks to Marian Howell for organising a cooking workshop for Class 2 – the scones were very tasty!
SPORT RELIEF – The School Council prepared circuit activities for the other pupils in order to raise money for Sports Relief. Thank you for your support.
DENTAL HEALTH – In March, we received a special visit from Adele from the Oral Health Team. The pupils enjoyed learning about the importance of caring for their teeth.
MYSTERY READER – Thank you very much Catrin Powell for being the Mystery Reader in Class One today.
EASTER EGG TREASURE HUNT – Many thanks to Joanna for organising the Easter Egg Treasure Hunt – the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activity!
ECO COUNCIL – The Eco Council has been busy buying new resources after the school received a grant from The Water Conservation Trust – thank you very much!
EISTEDDFOD YR URDD – Congratulations to all the children who competed at the Eisteddfod and best wishes to those moving onto the next round. Thank you also to the parents for coming to support. A great day was had by all.
BOROUGH MARKET – A very big thank you to Lisa Fearn for a great workshop on making Welsh Cakes at Borough Market to celebrate St. David’s Day.
ST. DAVID’S DAY AT WESTMINSTER – Despite the cold weather, we thoroughly enjoyed singing for the Speaker of the House of Commons at Westminster in celebration of St. David’s Day. Thank you to everyone who came to support in such adverse weather conditions.
SAMARITANS ASSEMBLY – Thank you to Samaritans volunteers, Jennifer and Sophie, for giving up their time to speak to the pupils about the role and work of the Samaritans. The pupils found the presentation both interesting and informative.
SCHOOL EISTEDDFOD – Great performances by all at our school Eisteddfod on Friday. Thank you to Mrs Hughes Ahmad for arranging.
ELENA D’CRUZE-REYNOLDS VISIT – Thank you very much Elena D’Cruze-Reynolds and Peniarth Publishers for our new books.
GYMNASTICS LESSONS -This term, Class 2 pupils are very fortunate to receive gymnastics lessons from gymnastics coach, Aurore Derakhshan (Step it Up Gymnastics). Thank you to the Governing Body for agreeing to fund the lessons.
E-SAFETY ASSEMBLY– Class 2 pupils enjoyed sharing their E-Safety knowledge with parents and guardians during a special assembly to promote Internet Safer Day.
CHRISTMAS SHOW – Well done to the pupils for another fantastic Christmas Show! Merry Christmas!
GERAINT JONES – Thank you to Dr Geraint Jones from UCL for coming to talk to us about his work and space, we learned a lot!
PIANO RECITAL – A brilliant Piano Recital! Thank you to Mrs Hughes Ahmad for organising everything.
BOOK COUNCIL – Our pupils enjoyed choosing new Welsh Books from the Book Council Stall.
BIRD FOOD – School Council members have been very busy making Bird Food for the playground!
EALING CHURCH– An interesting morning at Ealing International Presbyterian Church with Assistant Minister, Gethin Jones. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
CHILDREN IN NEED DAY – Wearing spots and raising money for Children in Need day.
FRENCH LESSON – GUEST SPEAKER – Thank you to Laurence for coming to speak to us during our French lesson today. The pupils enjoyed speaking French and asking her questions!
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK – The pupils wore odd socks today to show their individuality and to spread awareness of the core values Anti-Bullying Week promotes.
TATE MODERN – Today, Class Two visited Tate Modern as part of their ‘Gallery’ theme.
HARVEST ASSEMBLY – Thank you to Mr Rob Nicholls for a wonderful Harvest Festival Assembly and to everyone who contributed towards the food collection for Ealing Foodbank.
HALIBALW FESTIVAL – The London Welsh School’s stall at London’s Halibalw Festival today.
PSHE – PC Carolyn Mc Guigan’s visit to the school.
MAGI ANN – A fun-filled morning with the book character, Magi Ann!
LLANGRANNOG – We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Llangrannog!
RIVER THAMES TRIP – Class Two pupils enjoyed their trip to the River Thames with Thames Explorer Trust.
FRENCH SCHOOL – A few photos from Class Two’s great visit to the French School, Collège André Malraux. Thank you to our French teacher, Mrs Hughes-Ahmad, for organising a great day!
LONDON WELSH SCHOOL’S POETRY FESTIVAL – We had a fantastic day working with Anni Llŷn, Welsh Children’s Poet laureate, and Ifor ap Glyn, National Poet of Wales.
We also took part in a dance workshop with the presenter and dancer, Tudur Phillips!
MINDFULNESS – We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to take part in Mindfulness sessions with Ann Wood.
HANWELL CARNIVAL – Another fantastic day at Hanwell Carnival, we can’t wait until next year! 1st prize for ‘Best Parade’!
PANTOSAURUS – The new Welsh language ‘Pantosorws’ video was launched at the Urdd Eisteddfod today. Thank you to the NSPCC for asking us to be part of such an important campaign. Check out the new video here and listen to our pupils singing the chorus!
TENNIS LESSONS – Class Two pupils thoroughly enjoyed their first tennis lesson with Dessislava Diakova today!

HWYL A HALIBALW – We were very busy at the ‘Hwyl a Halibalw’ festival today!
BLUE FOX FOREST SCHOOL – Class one pupils thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the forest! Thank you Blue Fox Forest School.
CYW – We had a great afternoon with presenters Huw and Catrin from Cyw.
HARVEST FESTIVAL – Thank you to everyone who attended our Harvest Festival Assembly and for contributing towards the food collection for Hanwell Community Centre Food Bank. Thank you to Mr. Rob Nicholls for his message during the assembly and to Class Two pupils for organising a brief presentation about the importance of saying ‘thank you’. They also sang ‘Cofia bob amser, cofia bob tro’ with the younger pupils – da iawn!
Steffan Hughes came to speak to us today about some of his experiences in the Paralympic Games – thank you, Steffan!
SCHOOL COUNCIL COMPETITION – Congratulations to Steffan from Class One for winning the School Council logo competition. Thank you to Chair and Vice Chair of the School council for judging the competition.
SCHOOL COUNCIL – NEW MEMBERS – Congratulations to the following pupils on being elected on to the new School Council.
The new School Council has been very busy today – collecting ideas, creating new school rules, planning events and they have even set this week’s homework ! Creating a new logo for the School Council is this weekend’s homework. It’s a competition! Good luck!
